When You’re Exhausted… But God Sends a Sign

There are days on this homesteading-and-motherhood journey when the exhaustion sits deep in your bones. The kind of tired where you wonder if you can take one more step, do one more feeding, rock one more baby, or pour out one more drop of love. Sometimes you even think, Lord, am I really strong enough for this? Am I doing the right thing?

And then—right when your heart whispers that prayer—God answers in the sweetest, quietest way.

Today, I was worn down. Truly worn down. I asked God for a sign, for a reminder that I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be… and He delivered it through a one-year-old baby boy who isn’t even my blood, but who has become a piece of my heart.

The moment he walked in the door, before I could even take off his little jacket, he reached for me—pulled me close—and gave me the biggest, slobbery, snotty kiss. The kind that only a baby who loves you without conditions can give. Then he wrapped those tiny arms around my neck and said, “Mama.”

And in that moment, everything in me melted.

The tired slipped away.

The doubts fell quiet.

And I remembered exactly why we’re doing all this.

Sometimes God doesn’t send thunder or lightning or dramatic signs. Sometimes He sends a hug. Sometimes He sends a baby who can barely talk but says exactly what you need to hear. Sometimes He sends love in the shape of a child you didn’t give birth to—but who calls you “Mama” because he knows where he feels safe.

God will never give us more than we can handle.

And when we forget that, He sends reminders wrapped in tiny arms and snotty kisses.

If you’re tired today, if you’re unsure or overwhelmed, just know—your sign might be closer than you think. Keep going. You’re doing better than you know
