A Quiet Winter Morning on the Homestead
This morning on the homestead feels like one of those deep-breath kind of days.
It’s -46° here in Northern Manitoba, bright and beautiful outside — and absolutely a day meant for staying in. The kind of cold where the world feels still, the snow sparkles like glass, and winter gently reminds you to slow your steps.
My day started softly: loving up the babies, keeping the house warm, and listening to the quiet hum that only winter mornings bring. I’ve got a heating pad tucked across my sore hip, layers on, and no plans to rush anything. Just warmth, comfort, and gratitude for being able to stay home when the weather says stay put.
Between tending the house, I’m spending some time working on advertisements and planning the week ahead for the homestead and the business — nothing frantic, just clear and intentional. Winter has a way of simplifying things. It narrows your focus. It invites preparation instead of pressure.
Productivity looks different in seasons like this. Today, it looks like:
- Staying warm
- Caring for my people
- Making quiet plans
- Letting the season lead
If you’re reading this from your own winter morning — whether it’s snowy, rainy, or simply heavy — I hope you’re giving yourself permission to move at the pace life is asking of you right now.

Days like this remind me that we don’t have to do everything loudly or quickly to move forward. Sometimes the most meaningful progress happens when we stay warm, stay present, and take the next small step right where we are.
